Mr. Ciarroco Grade 6 Room 117
The sixth grade students will complete their science unit on "Weather" with a series of topics ranging from blizzards,
hurricanes, tornadoes, thunder & lightning, snow, droughts, hail, rainbows, floods, precipitation and more. Each student will deliver an oral presentation & discussion to the class. Weather forecasting using "Doppler Radar" will also be discussed. We will end the the unit using the steps in the writing process to create our own "Weather Poems" which promise to be informative yet entertaining as well. We will also cover the "Perfect Storm" and the "Blizzard that dazzled us this week." We are applying our knowledge of percents this week to every day usage exploring such topics as discounts, sales tax, commission, and how to be a smart consumer in today's market. After our unit on percentage%%% we will be doing a math-lab activity that involves using a pack of "M&M's" just in time with our annual Candy Sale. We will be collecting data from a single sample, with a partner, and proceeding to do group statistics. We will be graphing our information gathered and using a circle graph showing percentage equivalents. You will be amazed to find out how much math is in a bag of M&M's. Don't forget to enjoy them at Recess Time! In sixth grade we can have fun and learn at the same time. Enjoy! |
